We are developing an aggressive, multi-faceted marketing and promotional strategy to attract customers to our online service offerings. Our goal is to significantly increase the number of registrants each year. We will be able to deliver service seamlessly and conveniently to smartphones, tablets and laptops alike.Īs of September 2013, 6.2 million people had created accounts under my Social Security. To accommodate increases in mobile technology use, we will accelerate our development of applications using responsive design (i.e., applications will automatically adjust to work on any electronic device). The enhanced capability will allow us to communicate with customers on the status of their claims or appeals and advise them of any documents we may need from them. We will also expand the portal to include online notice delivery and offer the choice to opt out of paper notices. We are enhancing my Social Security to allow customers to file a claim for retirement or disability benefits, request a replacement Social Security card, and access many other services. Through this portal, people who register can view their Social Security Statement, get a benefit verification letter, start or change their direct deposit, and change their address – all online. The foundation for increasing our online services is the my Social Security portal we established in 2012 and enhanced in early 2013. ![]() In response to the rising demand and usage, we will increase the number and types of self-service choices we offer. In FY 2013, more than 49 percent of retirement applicants and 45 percent of disability applicants filed online. ![]() In FY 2007, approximately 10 percent of our customers filing for retirement filed online. Three of our websites – iClaims, Retirement Estimator, and Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs – either matched or outperformed commercial sites, including perennial leader Amazon. In addition, based on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, our online applications have ranked in the top five in government for many years. We also know that our customers increasingly use, and even prefer, our online services. Since many governments already provide their citizens online access using an identity provider that supports OpenID Connect, it is now possible for these governments to give their subjects secure self-service access to 4me without having to create a person record in 4me for every citizen. We know that the public is accustomed to self-service options, including those offered through automated phones and the Internet. This works not only for Google, but for any identity provider that supports the OpenID Connect protocol. If the JIT attributes (or claims) included in the response from Google contain updated information, the 4me person record gets updated automatically. The next time this person attempts to access 4me using with his or her Google account’s credentials, 4me will recognize that the person record already exists and provide access without creating another person record. This person record gets populated with the name, email address, picture and language preference that is stored in his or her Google account. That’s because 4me’s JIT provisioning ensures that, before providing access, the information from a person’s Google account is used to generate a new person record. If they are already logged into their Google account, they will be given access to 4me, even if they do not have a person record in 4me yet. The result is that people are able to access the organization’s self-service portal with their Google account. There it is possible to add another single sign-on configuration for the identity provider, for example for Google. After creating the app or project in the identity provider, a 4me account owner can go to the ‘Single Sign-on’ section of the Settings console. That makes it possible to give people, who do not yet have a person record in 4me, access to 4me Self Service with their Google, LinkedIn or Microsoft account credentials. What’s new is that 4me allows OpenID Connect and JIT provisioning to be combined. 4me’s advanced single sign-on capabilities have also supported OpenID Connect for a while now. ![]() Just-in-time (JIT) provisioning of user access has been supported by 4me for a few years already. ![]()
